<p>I find I prefer the more detailed lines when using a harder lead pencil compared to a soft lead and broad, less distinct lines. In October and most of December I was using the softer lead.</p>

<p>Using a photo to draw from has it&#8217;s pros and cons&#8230; I can take my time&#8230; I can turn both the photo and my sketch pad upside down to get a different view which helps a lot in getting the proportions right but the biggest drawback is the lack of conversation.  I so enjoy the back and forth easy-going chatting that occurs when I can talk with the person I am drawing.  Below is one of my recent drawings using an online image as the &#8220;subject&#8221;.</p>
